Dimensions of Board Chair Leadership Webinar Series
This webinar series provides board chairs information and insight about leading the board of directors in their oversight and support responsibilities. Each webinar looks at a dimension of board chair responsibilities and highlights practices for improvement – improving their own performance, the performance of the full board, and ultimately the performance of the health center in achieving its mission in the community, which is the passion of all board members.
This webinar will provide an overview of leadership responsibilities generally expected from board chairs. These include guidance on how to:
- Communicate with the CEO and other board members.
- Guide/mentor new committee chairs and new board members.
- Resolve conflicts among board members.
- Ask tough questions before board decision-making.
The second webinar in the series will highlight characteristics of a high-performing board and look at the role of the board chair in working with other board members and staff to recruit new members who are committed to the mission, who bring expertise in key areas, and who represent diverse points of view. The webinar will touch on board member recruitment, orientation, and engagement.
Committees are where most of a board’s work is done and where board members deepen their understanding of particular issues. Full board meetings are where members focus on big-picture issues and decision-making. This webinar will look at the board chair’s role to appoint committee chairs and assess committees’ work to assure they function effectively and support a healthy board culture.
